The Adriatic Print E-mail

AdriaticThe Adriatic is one of the cleanest and most beautiful seas in the world, and along with the Croatian coast and islands is an attractive nautical destination. The best way to experience it is from the sea where you will reach places unreachable from the coast, you will sleep in the centre of every ancient town, you will swim in the clearest water.

But in addition to the attractive Adriatic, the interior of Croatia also has its many treasures such as rural tourism, excursion and religious tourism, the delights of soft adventure and many more. Croatia has altogether eight national parks, four of which are in the mountainous region - Paklenica, Plitvice Lakes, Risnjak and Northern Velebit.

Aside from Krka National Park in the coastal area, which lies in the hinterland of the historical town Skradin, three national parks are on islands: Brijuni, Kornati and Mljet.

ImageThe beauty of the sensational parks will surely make your stay in the Adriatic even more fascinating. Apart from nature parks as areas of particularly valuable natural heritage, there are areas strictly protected by law such as special reserves, nature monuments and nature parks.
Owing to its eventful history and influences of various cultures Croatia abounds in cultural-historic monuments from all periods. The main features of the coastal area are influences of Mediterranean culture, numerous ancient monuments, monuments from the Roman and early medieval periods, Romanesque sacral heritage, as well as a number of preserved typical Mediterranean urban complexes.
Continental Croatia is part of the Central European culture with a great number of world known prehistoric finds, old towns, fortresses and castles from the late medieval period and Baroque cultural monuments and architecture. Three urban complexes and two monumental sites have been named UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. These are the Late Classical Diocletian’s Palace, reconstructed over the centuries into medieval Split, the historic cores of Dubrovnik and Trogir, as well as the Basilica of Euphrasius in Poreč and St. Jacob’s Cathedral in Šibenik. Plitvice Lakes National Park, the most beautiful and renowned national park in Croatia has also been proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
ImageModern nautical centers, high-quality hotels, some of which belong to international hotel chains, tourist villages, camps and other types of accommodation facilities are all equipped according to international tourist standards. There is a wide range of cultural events, wellness programs, sports, recreation and entertainment facilities, variety of marked hiking trails and wine roads, excursions with sightseeing tours of natural and cultural sights, and the real combination of experience and adventure increases adrenaline…
The capital of Croatia is Zagreb, its cultural, economic and administrative center.
The romantic Upper Town is in obvious contrast to the Lower Town as its business center. Zagreb’s charm, nearness of the most important institutions, museums, hotels, theaters – they are all within walking distance, the beauty of its parks and complete atmosphere make it an ideal blend of excursion and business tourism. This is surely not enough to discover the land whose sea has already captivated us – or is about to at the first encounter. Everything else that truly connects people and lands is there for you to discover while sailing the Adriatic or as your chartered or private yacht awaits you in one of the 21 ACI marinas to continue your journey….

ImageDiversity and unspoilt nature, along with good traffic connections and proximity, are certainly reasons why Croatia is referred to as the most beautiful garden of Europe. It takes only a few hours’ drive to reach Croatia by car or even less by plane from the most distant major European cities. Over the past few years Croatia has greatly improved its network of modern highways and roads, which has reduced the distance of travel, making it easier to reach your destination. That is where its true story begins… By its natural beauties and diversity, cultural-historical monuments and cultural events, as well as traditional festivities that even today come alive during feast days celebrating patron saints, Croatia is a unique blend of lively Mediterranean and Central European business efficiency, rhythm of nature combined with the hospitality of a country that sees tourism both as its present and future.
The Republic of Croatia stretches along the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea and its interior. It extends from the edges of the Alps in the northwest to the Pannonian lowlands in the east. The mainland covers 56,500 km2 and the surface of the territorial sea is just over 31,000 km2. It has a spectacular 5,835 km of coastline including islands, islets and reefs, altogether 1,185 of them, making the Croatian part of the Adriatic definitely the most indented coastline in the Mediterranean. There are 47 inhabited islands.

ImageSailing the Split region, the islands become bigger and the colors, sounds and scents more intensive. You will still enjoy the exceptional beauty of nature, clean sea and specific setting. You will remember for long the sweet smell of lavender from Hvar, olive groves on Hvar and Brač, unforgettable sunrises and sunsets, your own coves or the songs of the harmony singing groups on the squares.

Here you can live by the rhythm of nature or attend international sports competitions, or even take part in them, swim, dive ... all you need to do is make a wish.

Or perhaps, in a tavern you will want to have a glass of homemade wine with your friends and feel the full taste of a masterfully prepared fishmenu.

However, in this part of Dalmatia, highlights are historic towns of narrow stone paved streets, a true treasury of history and experience. Although there are many and they all deserve your attention, because of their exceptional value we mention Diocletian’s Palace in Split and the medieval town of Trogir - both on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Besides the city of Split being the region’s capital, there are the popular tourist destinations and widely known islands Hvar, Brač and Vis, the Makarska Riviera with a whole string of attractive resorts.

ImageThe importance of this region’s destinations are proved by the facts that Hvar was named one of the ten loveliest islands in the world and that the famous beaches in Bol on Brač island, as well as the one in Brela, are often mentioned and photographed in world magazines as special attractions.

Apart from Hvar, Brač and the Pakleni islands with ACI marinas, we draw your attention to Vis island with tourist resort towns Komiža and Vis. It is known for its fishermen, seamen, excellent wine, plenty of sun, warm sea and palm trees, that from the very nursery-garden on Vis adorn many Croatian coastal towns. Southwest of Vis is the small island of Biševo with its well-known Blue Grotto that because of its unique light and colorful effects is often the most attractive tourist destination.

The most permanent pictures that will belong only to you are those you will make from the entire palette of colors, smells and tastes we are discovering together.
